A beautiful summer morning....time to reflect!

Image
The first shot was taken at 6:12 am, such a gorgeous summers day. Blue skies, sunshine and amazing views, a great start to the day absorbing the beauty. An early start to the day makes me so grateful for the simple pleasures nature has to offer. The early morning crisp fresh air, the sunrise and warmth on your skin, the hues of the sky that changes with every sunrise, I truly believe no two sunrises are every the same and every single time I am in awe at the awakening of the sun each morning, truly a captivating experience. The below picture was taken at the Umhlanga nature reserve, the walk way is build over the water and not the most stable, not straight either so one has to exercise caution when treading along here. Much like life to be honest, the journey is never stable, there are always twists and turns along the way, humps and bumps, however it doesn't mean we don't take the journey, in fact we learn with every step how to navigate through life, and every wrong step alo...

The role of perception in life....

Image
In the recent months I have taken to beach walks and attempting to capture the beauty I see in nature and just anything really that I find to be captivating and inspiring. The pictures I have added here were taken whilst walking along the Umhlanga promenade in Durban, one of my most favourite places to spend my time.  These pictures one would imagine would have been taken on different days, times and angles. These however were taken on the same day an hour of each other, of different directions of the lighthouse. For me it was amazing that you could look at exactly the same object but from completely different angles and see something very different. The first picture appears to be a beautiful day, clear blue skies and the second the opposite with grey clouds and very gloomy, both beautiful in their own right, but shows us that life is about perception. Its about what we choose to see and how we choose to see it. The way we comprehend what we see and the feelings this invokes withi...

Lock down: A social construct dictated by the virus

Image
South Africa has been in lock down for over seven months now and we are currently at level 1. The virus continues to spread widely around the world and South Africa is also getting progressively worse in terms of the spread. In this level most activities have been permitted. These include exercising outdoors at all times, walking around the beach area, fast food restaurants have opened, the sale of  clothing, alcohol, and general goods, as well as many other trading activities, social gatherings within limits have also been allowed. The shift to opening up most parts of the economy has given rise to more people being exposed and as such more people contracting the virus. Everyday we receive tons of information via the internet, social media platforms and newspapers, about the many cases of people getting the virus and ways in which they are suffering, together with families dealing with this pandemic. Funerals are heart breaking under normal circumstances, but with the virus, its b...

Life after lock down - A future through self awareness

The past two months has given testament to the fact that life is uncertain and unpredictable. The world has been faced with unprecedented turmoil and disruption due to the current Corona virus pandemic. Life as we knew it, now ceases to exist and a new way of life has dawned upon us. A life where social interaction is feared and practiced with reluctance, showing any type of physical affection has been banned. We have been forced to take on this "new way of life" primarily because we wish to survive and protect the most vulnerable among us. So the question remains, have we learnt anything by the corner we have been pushed into? Have we given it any thought? I received a video message from one of my sisters the other day and it depicted the virus as a living being, speaking to us "the human species", reflecting on itself and how it came to be, how we became its host and why and what it has come to do in order to thrive. We are referred to as "predators" c...

Morning Blessings Waking up to a beautiful sunrise is the very first blessing of my day, firstly waking up and secondly being greeted with the warm rays of the sun coming through my window, how can you not want to wake up and appreciate that ðŸ˜‰ The glorious reminder that nature gives us, that a new day has dawned, teaching us that we have a new start, new beginnings and we can also start afresh with new opportunities. I had...

Surviving Lockdown - My Personal Perspective

Image
Family, friends and readers, I am by no means a professional writer, this article, if you may call it that, is merely a reflection on how I have survived the lock down so far, which I wanted to share with family and friends and others that may benefit, in the event that it can assist  someone in anyway. For those that know me well, I don’t generally say a lot but that doesn’t mean I don’t have a lot to say to those that take the time to listen 😉 I understand that some may disagree with the thoughts and sentiments expressed in this article, and that is okay, but no offence is intended towards anyone.  😊 The moment I heard about the lock down, it was quite an awakening on what we as a country would be facing over the next few months. Essentially things got real in an incredibly big way. My initial thoughts were "what would this mean for our country and the people in it". "How would this work with such impoverished parts of South Africa?" Peoples li...
