The role of perception in life....
In the recent months I have taken to beach walks and attempting to capture the beauty I see in nature and just anything really that I find to be captivating and inspiring. The pictures I have added here were taken whilst walking along the Umhlanga promenade in Durban, one of my most favourite places to spend my time.
These pictures one would imagine would have been taken on different days, times and angles. These however were taken on the same day an hour of each other, of different directions of the lighthouse. For me it was amazing that you could look at exactly the same object but from completely different angles and see something very different.
The first picture appears to be a beautiful day, clear blue skies and the second the opposite with grey clouds and very gloomy, both beautiful in their own right, but shows us that life is about perception. Its about what we choose to see and how we choose to see it. The way we comprehend what we see and the feelings this invokes within us, so what we think about life dictates how we feel and ultimately how we behave.
I reflect on this day, I summer's afternoon after work, just doing a later walk during lockdown and just needing the time to destress and take in the positive atmosphere. When I do this I find inspiration, I see things more clearly and I believe I am more receptive to the beauty around me.
Its times like this that enables me to be present in the moment and just observe, I often walk alone by choice really, it gives me a chance to just be present, observe my environment and almost always see so much more beauty than I believe I would have otherwise. Days like this make me smile and gives me a sense of gratitude that nature has so many lessons for us if we are willing to listen and receive them.
In which ever area you draw inspiration, there are always hidden lessons one can draw by being ever present in the moment. I encourage you to try it the next time you do something you love 😊
